Every place, coordinate and photograph in the outdoors section comes from an open source, used under its licence. Nothing here is taken from a paid or curated third-party map.
Place locations, hiking-route geometry and car-park positions come from OpenStreetMap and are © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License (ODbL) 1.0. The OpenStreetMap-derived subset of this dataset is available on request.
Photographs come from Wikimedia Commons and are credited to their photographer, with their licence, on each page they appear on. Only files under CC0, CC BY, CC BY-SA or a public-domain dedication are used.
Where no licence-clean photograph of a place exists, its page shows a location map instead: Iceland's coastline from Natural Earth, which is in the public domain, with the place marked from its coordinates. We would rather show where a place is than a photograph of the wrong one.
The descriptions on these pages are written by us, from facts. Where a Wikipedia article was one of those facts' sources it is linked from the page. We do not reproduce Wikipedia text.
The list is generated by a written rule, not hand-picked: every named feature of an included type inside Iceland, from OpenStreetMap or Wikidata. Every published place has its own page, built from the facts we hold about it. Where we do not have a fact, the page leaves it out rather than guessing.
Think we have used something we should not have, or got a fact wrong? Write to support@lifepass.is and we will fix or remove it.
