Frequently Asked

Straight answers about using LifePass in Iceland.

LifePass uses subscription plans (Base, Plus, Max) plus visitor passes instead of single-venue memberships. Choose a plan, browse partner venues, then check in or book where access is available.

General Questions

What is LifePass?

LifePass is a wellness pass for Iceland. It gives travelers and locals access to partner gyms, yoga studios, pools, spas, lagoons, and wellness venues through one plan-based account.

How does LifePass work?

Pick a subscription plan or a visitor pass, browse participating venues, then check in or book. Network venues (gyms, studios, pools) are included with your plan up to your monthly visit allowances; boutique studios include a set number of visits per month depending on your plan; premium venues like lagoons and spas are paid per visit at prices shown before you confirm.

Where is LifePass available?

LifePass is focused on Iceland, with venues across the capital area and selected regions around the country. New partners are added as venue onboarding is completed.

Plans & Payments

How do plans work?

Each subscription tier (Base, Plus, Max) includes a monthly allowance of network visits at gyms and studios, plus a separate monthly allowance of pool visits. When you're out of monthly visits you can still visit: everyday venues offer a one-time drop-in at the venue's own price (where the venue offers one), and premium venues let you continue at the member price with no visit used. There's also a daily visit limit that keeps things fair — it can't be extended by paying.

How does the free trial work?

New members can try LifePass with 2 free visits over 14 days — trial visits are valid at gym and studio venues, and the trial is one per person. If you don't cancel during the trial, your first charge happens on day 15, and from then on it's a regular monthly membership you can cancel anytime, effective at the end of the paid month. Cancel any time within the 14 days in the app and nothing is charged.

What is the difference between visitor packages and memberships?

Visitor passes are prepaid packs of a fixed number of visits, bought once for short stays, and they expire after a set number of days. Pack visits are redeemed at network venues — gyms, studios, and pools. Multi-visit packs can also be used at lagoons and other premium venues while the pass has visits remaining: book the time slot in the LifePass app before you go (premium venues admit by booking, not walk-in), the venue's standard surcharge applies, and one pass visit is used. Day passes can't be used that way and are locked to a single category for one day. Monthly subscriptions renew every month and are designed for locals or frequent users who want recurring access.

Can I buy a visitor pass as a gift?

Yes. Any visitor pass can be bought as a gift. The recipient gets an email with a personal claim link tied to their email address. They have six months to claim it, and the pass's validity only starts when they claim — so a 30-day pass claimed in October runs from October, not from the day you bought it. Unclaimed gifts expire six months after purchase.

What happens when I run out of monthly visits?

You're never locked out. At everyday network venues you can buy a one-time drop-in at the venue's own price, where the venue offers one. At premium venues you continue at the member price where the venue offers one (otherwise the standard price), with no visit used. At boutique studios the full drop-in price applies once your monthly visits are gone. Every amount is shown and confirmed before anything is charged. The daily visit limit is the one thing that can't be extended by paying.

How do company (employer-paid) plans work?

Your employer can cover part or all of a LifePass membership. Your employer gives us the list of eligible employees — sign up with your work email to be matched. If there's a monthly share for you to pay, it's charged to your saved card each month, and you can cancel your participation in the app at any time. If a monthly share payment fails, your co-paid access pauses while we email you and retry daily for up to a week — settling the payment restores it.

Can I get a refund?

Visitor passes are not refundable after purchase. Subscriptions follow the LifePass terms: you can cancel anytime, and cancellation takes effect at the end of your current paid month — the rest of that month isn't refunded.

Where do I enter a discount code?

At checkout there's a field for discount and partner codes — enter your code there and the reduced price is shown before you pay. One code per purchase; codes can't be combined.

Can I use my union fitness subsidy (líkamsræktarstyrkur)?

In most cases, yes — memberships and visit packs generally qualify for union fitness subsidies. Download your receipt in the app and submit it to your union. Reimbursement is between you and your union — LifePass can't guarantee that a specific union will approve it.

Check-ins & Booking

How many times can I check in per day?

Daily check-in limits depend on your plan. Smaller plans are intended for occasional use, while larger plans support more frequent access.

Do I need to book in advance?

It depends on the venue. Some venues support walk-in access, while others require a reservation. Venue pages show the available access method.

Can I cancel a booking?

Cancellation rules are set by each venue. If cancellation is allowed and completed within the venue's deadline, the visit is released according to the booking policy. Cancelling late or not showing up can add a strike, which can temporarily limit booking.

Will I be reminded about my booking?

Yes — we send a reminder before your booked class by email, and by push notification in the app, including one shortly before start that lets you scan and mark yourself present at the venue. Marking your attendance confirms your visit and avoids a no-show strike.

I checked in but closed the confirmation — how do I show it to staff?

Open your dashboard. For 15 minutes after any check-in it shows a “Show to staff” button that re-opens the same confirmation screen, with your name, the venue, the class, the time, and the confirmation code.

What does LifePass record when I check in?

Every check-in records who visited, the venue, the activity or class, and the time. Venue reception sees your check-in on their screen so staff can let you through, and the same record is used to count your monthly visits and to pay the venue for your visit.

How does my class attendance get counted?

Many partner gyms run their class schedules on their own booking system. When the venue marks you present for a class you booked through LifePass, that attendance is sent back to us and recorded on your booking, so your visit counts correctly even if you didn't scan a QR code at the door. It works both ways: when you scan the reception QR to check in to a class, LifePass also marks you present in the venue's own class system, so you never need to check in twice. For the attendance sync itself, only your attendance and a LifePass reference are exchanged — see our Privacy Policy for exactly what we share with class-booking partners.

Account & Sharing

Can I share my account?

No. Each LifePass account is personal. Venues need to know who is using the facility for access, safety, and insurance reasons.

Can couples or families use one pass?

Each adult member needs their own LifePass account — this keeps check-ins accurate and venue access clear for staff. Children and guests without an account can still join your visit: see “Can I bring my children?” and “Can I bring friends or family who don't have LifePass?” under Venues & Access.

Can I update my account information?

Yes. You can update your personal details from your profile once account management is available in the app.

Why do I need to verify my kennitala?

Verification through Kenni (Auðkenni electronic ID) confirms who you are and is required before purchases. Your kennitala is shared only where it's needed — with our payment provider to set up billing, and with venues that run their own class-booking system to match your bookings. See the Privacy Policy for details.

How does refer-a-friend work?

Every member has a personal referral link on their profile. When a friend completes their first paid purchase through your link, you earn a free visit, valid for 90 days at gym, studio, and pool venues. If that purchase is refunded, the reward is reversed.

Venues & Access

What is a premium venue, and how does the surcharge work?

Premium venues are higher-cost experiences — geothermal lagoons, spas, recovery, and racquet clubs. They aren't included in any plan; each visit is paid. There are two ways a premium visit is priced, and the booking screen always tells you which one applies before you confirm. While you have monthly visits left, the visit uses one of your monthly visits plus the standard surcharge for that activity. Once you're out of monthly visits, you keep visiting at the member price and no visit is used. Even with visits remaining, you can choose to keep your visit and pay the member price instead — both options and their prices are always shown before you confirm. Multi-visit visitor passes work the same way as a plan with visits left: the standard surcharge applies and one pass visit is used. Prices are set per activity, so two options at the same place can be priced differently. One thing never varies: premium visits are booked in advance in the app — your booking is what the venue's front desk sees, so book before you go.

When and how am I charged the surcharge?

You always see the exact amount for the activity you picked, and you tap “Confirm and pay” to approve it — the charge happens then, before your booking or entry is confirmed. Nothing is ever charged silently, and the price shown is the price charged. With a saved card it's one tap; without one, you pay on our payment provider's secure page and your card is saved there for next time — LifePass never stores your card number. The screen also states whether a visit is used: while you have monthly visits left, a premium visit uses one of them alongside the surcharge; once you're out, you pay the member price and no visit is used.

How do I know what a venue costs?

Network venues (gyms, pools, studios) are included up to your monthly allowances, with an optional drop-in at the venue's price after that. Boutique studios show the extra-visit price on their page. Premium venues show their standard price and the members-and-pass-holders price. In every case the exact amount is shown before you book or check in — you never commit without seeing the price first.

How do boutique studios work?

Boutique studios are specialist studios — think reformer Pilates or barre — that sit inside your plan with their own limit. Plus and Max include a set number of visits per boutique studio each month (shown on each plan); those are free and use a monthly visit. Past that allowance, a visit uses one monthly visit plus a small flat surcharge — the same price for every plan. Out of monthly visits entirely, the studio's full drop-in price applies. Visitor-pass holders and non-members are welcome too: they pay the flat surcharge per visit without using any pass visits.

Is paying for premium visits still worth it?

One membership covers your everyday gym, pool, and studio visits, and adds premium experiences at prices you always see up front — with the member price whenever you're out of monthly visits, instead of paying full walk-in price at each place separately. Multi-visit visitor passes can be used at premium venues too, at the standard surcharge, while the pass has visits remaining.

Can I bring friends or family who don't have LifePass?

Yes. At participating venues you can add guests to your own check-in or booking — up to 10 people on one booking — and your guests pay the member price instead of the standard walk-in price. Guests don't need an account; they're simply added to your visit, and each guest's price is shown before you confirm.

Can I bring my children?

Yes — at venues that welcome children, especially lagoons and pools, you can add them to your booking or walk-in at that venue's child prices. Each venue sets its own age bands (the youngest ages are often free, with a reduced child price up to the venue's age limit), and the exact price for every child is shown before you confirm. Children don't need their own LifePass account — they're added to your visit.

Security & Support

Are payments secure?

Payments are handled by our payment provider. Your card is stored securely with the provider as a token — LifePass never stores your full card number or CVC. Saved cards make surcharges, drop-ins, and monthly shares one-tap. You can add, replace, or remove a saved card yourself in the app from your profile. If you have an active subscription, a card must remain on file for renewals — replace it any time; removing it entirely is only possible once no subscription depends on it.

How do I contact support?

Email support@lifepass.is or use the contact page. Include your account email, the venue name, and booking details if your question is about a visit.
